Wir führen Originalabfüllungen der Destillerien, konzentrieren uns jedoch hauptsächlich auf schottische Single Malts unabhängiger Abfüller. Warum überhaupt Whisky?
Warum überhaupt ein Whiskygeschäft?

Wir sind fasziniert von der Aromenvielfalt der verschiedenen Whiskies. Alleine schon die Regionen begeistern uns: die leicht und erfrischenden Lowlander, die einerseits blumigen, komplexen und andererseits schweren, sherrybetonten Speysider, die weichen, sanften südlichen Highlander, die robusten, würzigen nördlichen Highlander, und die Islands und Islay Whiskies, wobei erstere weicher und süßer als ihre stark rauchig torfigen Verwandten aus Islay sind. Beiden ist ein maritimer Charakter zueigen.
Wenn nun schon die verschiedenen Regionen das Aroma in eine bestimmte Richtung lenken, so hat doch jede Destillerie noch ihre eigenen Charakteristika. Geschmack potenziert, könnte man sagen.

Gleichzeitig verbinden wir den Genuss von Whisky mit der schönen Landschaft Schottlands und der Ruhe, die dort zu finden ist.

Unsere Whiskies

Neu im Fachgeschäft:

August 2011

Am 6. Juli zeigte uns Alex Bruce von Adelphi noch die Fässer in seinem Lagerhaus. Am Tag darauf wurden sie abgefüllt. Erschnuppern Sie bei uns die Samples von:

• Blair Athol 25y, 1986
  52,9%, 184 Fl., Fass 20081, refill bourbon
  
  Only the second time we have bottled a cask from this lovely distillery in Pitlochry.
  Deep gold with large, lingering beeds suggesting a voluptuous mothfeel.
  A slight nose prickle to start, with teak oil, artists’ turpentine and furniture polish; then buttery vanilla sponge behind. The latter moves forward and becomes Eve’s Pudding (apple sponge). A surprisingly perfumed palate, with Parma violets; dry over all.
  Water supresses the aroma somewhat, although the apple sponge is still apparent. A smooth texture, with a dash of water; sweeter, but still dry overall, and still traces of Parma violets in the aftertaste.
  
  
• Bunnahabhain 13y, 1997 (heavily peated)
  57,2%, 369 Fl., Fass 5372, refill sherry
  
  Deep amber, with moderate beading. A prickly nose, and an immediate impression of smoky bacon crisps and penut butter (especially apparent if you nose on warm hands). Behind this, moorland and sea-shore scents of moss and bog myrtle, salt and dry seaweed – charred wood increasing – and none of the sulphury off-notes often found in ex-sherry casks. Drinks well, unreduced – an ‘old fashioned’ taste, with canvas and acrid camp-fire smoke; sweet, but drying. Water increases (and loosens) the moorland and maritime aromas. Pleasant texture, light sweetness, then saltiness and acidity, lengthy smoky finish, with hessian in the aftertaste.
  
  
• Dailuaine 27y, 1983

  Der Besitzer von Adelphi liebt Dailuaines aus dem Sherry-Faß. Alex Bruce und Charlie MacLean waren deshalb schon eine ganze Weile auf der Suche nach einen Top-Quality Faß. Es dauerte eine ganze Weile, bis sie DEN Dailuine fanden, der ihren und des Besitzers Ansprüchen genügte. Nun ist er da. Keine Tasting Notes. Einfach zu uns kommen und verlieben!
  
  
• Highland Park 13y, 1997
  58 %, 263 Fl., Fass 981, refill bourbon
  
  Mid gold, with khaki lights and a fine, moderate bead.
  A slight nose prickle with chocolate malt and hessian, when nosed on warm hands.
  At first in the glass, the aroma is of chocolate boxes (possibly cherry liqueur chocs) later some fondant and dry peat.
  A very pleasant texture with a sweet initial taste, drying with sackcloth and ashes in the aftertaste. Water continues chocolates, fondant and ashes, with maritime under-notes on the nose. The texture is soft, the taste lightly sweet to start, with some salt and a whisper of peat in the warming finish.

  Longmorn klassisch gut!
  
  
• Tamdhu 26y, 1984
  48,8 %, 269 Fl., Fass 2836, refill bourbon
  
  Tamdhu was mothballed in 2010 by the then owners, Edrington. However, it has recently been purchased by Ian MacLeod Distillers and we hope to see the stills firing again before too long.
  This elderly example is bright gold, with orange lights. A moderate bead, with cremant bubbles settling.
  A sweet, fruity nose (bruised apples, cherries – even Cherry Heering liqueur), with some malt to start yielding to pear drops; layered and changing. A silky texture and a sweet taste, with some fruit; drying in the finish.  Water introduces an attractive waxy note and alters the nature of the fruitiness, but flattens the aroma. The taste at reduced strength is not so sweet, with light chocolate in the aftertaste. Better enjoyed at natural strength.

Besonders spannend für alle die, die im letzten Jahr an unserem "Kilchoman Special" unter Leitung von Destillerie Besitzer Anthony Wills teilgenommen haben, aber auch für alle anderen Islay-Torf-und-Rauch-Fans:

Unter Anwesenheit etlicher Whisky-Prominenz feierte Kilchoman Distillery am 16.06.2011 die Einführung der Inaugural 100 % Islay Release.

Der 100% Islay ist eine Kombination aus dreijähriger Lagerung in frischen und Refill Bourbon Barrels.

"The Maltman" -
die Erfahrung eines Hart Brothers

Wer war im Mai in Limburg und hat Andy Hart und Alba Import erlebt? Die Markteinführung des "The Maltman" hätte sich Andy Hart kaum besser wünschen können. Viele begeisterte Gesichter gab es beim Tasting und am Stand.

"The Maltman" ist das Single Malt Label der Meadowside Blending Company. Bitte nicht irre führen lassen von dem Wort 'blending' im Firmennamen. Donald Hart, Vater von Andy und seit 1964 zusammen mit seinem Bruder Iain Wine & Spirit Wholesaler, ist mit der Marke Hart Brothers seit vielen Jahren bekannt gute Blends Single Malts.

Vater und Sohn bringen Single Casks, überwiegend in 46 % abgefüllt auf den Markt. Nur der schöne 30jährige Caol Ila ist die Ausnahme. Er wurde 1980 "geboren" und kam mit 50,1 % in die Flasche. Allen gleich ist: kein Farbstoff und keine Kühlfiltration. Wäre ja auch kontraproduktiv bei Einzelfässern ...

Neu bei Wemyss:
"Wemyss" - zwei Worte für Aroma und Geschmack

Wemyss ist nicht neu auf unseren Regalen. Viele von Ihnen kennen bereits den Abfüller, der sich zuallererst auf Aromen und Geschmack konzentriert. In zwei Worten fasst das Nosing Panel die Hauptaromen zusammen und schreibt nur diese auf's Etikett. Die Destillerie spielt die zweitrangige Rolle. Ein Konzept ideal passend zum Whisky"bekochen".

Sie haben es nicht bis zur Whiskyfair Limburg geschafft. Nun freuen wir uns umso mehr, sie ab Anfang Juni auf unseren Regalen zu haben. Erstmalig abgefüllt im Adelphi-eigenen Lagerhaus nähe Edinburgh (05/2011) finden Sie hier die neuen Schätze mit den Original Tasting Notes:

• Ardmore 18y, 1992
  50,7%, ~267 Fl., Fass 4998, refill bourbon
  
  The nosefeel is mild allowing distinctly smoky notes of smoked sausage and smoked duck to come through, with Savlon antiseptic cream and mineral bath salts: clean and fresh.
  Water introduces a hint of bicycle inner-tube to the foreground, with grubby smoke in the distance. At full strength the taste is fresh and surprisingly sweet, becoming very sweet when qualified with a drop of water. Most of the flavour is middle palate, with a thread of smoke in the finish. We suggest adding only a drop of water.

• Aultmore 28y, 1982
  57,6%, ~179 Fl., Fass 2233, refill bourbon
  
  Deep faery gold, with good beading, this promises to be another great whisky from this Top Class distillery. Tasted shortly after Easter, Simnel cake (dried fruits and dry marzipan) immediately springs to mind; then really vivid notes of green apple peel becoming bruised apples.
  With water the aroma is more of apple pie and well-baked pie crust. A good body, with a pleasant mouth-filling texture, as you would expect from the beading; sweet, with a trace of salt, and the apples are now baked (in their skins).
  Drying in the medium-length finish, with dessicated coconut in the aftertaste, an excellent example of well-aged Speyside malt.

• Bunnahabhain 12y, 1998
  55,0%, ~632 Fl., Fass 6038, 1st fill sherry
  
  This is the sister cask to the Christmas 2010 bottling, another superb 1st fill sherry butt, but very different. The colour of a Stradivarius violin – deep and profound.
  The first nose presents treacle toffee, sticky Jamaican ginger cake and rich Boeuf Bourgignon. A hint of smoke, which is more apparent in the finish, when tasted straight. The taste is sweet and the effect mouth-drying. Water raises pencil shavings and a hint of  matchbox striker, with Moffat Toffees and dark chocolate; a dry nose overall, although the taste starts very sweet before drying out in the lengthy finish. Somewhat palate-cooling in the aftertaste, with dark chocolate lingering both in texture and taste.

• Clynelish 14y, 1997-05/2011
  59,5%, ~247 Fl., Fass 4715, refill bourbon
  
  Good colour – aged copper lights, with a moderate beading. Slight prickle on the nose, increasing as the whisky warms and begins to open.
  Initial dried mixed herbs, with a trace of Chartreuse; then vanilla ice cream and set honey behind, with a tradititional Danish wood oil.
  Water immediately raises the keynote candlewax we expect from Clynelish, with coconut biscuits and vanilla creams. Mouthcoating, with a light sweetness and lively acidity, and a curious (natural) liquorice saltiness (this surprised us), with coconut and vanilla. A medium length, warming finish and lingering summer whin flowers in the aftertaste.

• Glenrothes 20y, 1990
  58,6%. ~527 Fl., Fass 12898, refill sherry
  
  Mid-umber in colour points towards refill European oak maturation. Possibly polished old oak floorboards. A moderate bead.
  A sharp nose-prickle, then somewhat nose-drying with Kirsch-filled liqueur chocolates and Terry’s chocolate orange behind the alcohol.
  Water changes it dramatically: old-fashioned barber shop, polished leather, dried fruits and ginger snaps.
  A soft, smooth texture (mouth-filling), and a very sweet taste throughout, with traces of molasses and soft fudge, burnt sugar and fruit-cake in the lengthy finish. Walnuts in the aftertaste. A super-clean, sherried Glenrothes.

• Linkwood 26y, 1984

  Another woefully small amount from a Linkwood cask – a great shame, but the whisky is worth every last drop!
  Deep coppery gold with good beading. Immediately wine gums, Cape Gooseberries and Camp coffee (a coffee essence, once quite famous, made in Scotland to provide coffee on the move); behind these, school desks and polished church pews, with a whiff of coal dust in the distance.
  Water changes it, introducing a tart, lime-like scent (Pisco sour), with dusty coconut, tangy tangerine peel and Fruit Gums.
  Fresh, sweet and somewhat peppery to taste, with a return of the coal dust in the slightly dry finish. Medium length, but the flavour continues to develop.

• Strathmill 24y, 1986
  58,6%, ~168 Fl., Fass 10222, refill bourbon
  
  A deep gold colour with moderate to good beading.
  This starts with a very light nose, and a little nose prickle, unusual for a whisky of this age. Underneath, we noted pale sponge cake with whipped cream, topped with fresh strawberries (similar to our previous bottling of Strathmill which we suggested might be suitable for enjoying at Wimbledon).
  Becoming dusty with water, possibly a hint of cedar-wood cigar wrapper; only the dried edges of the sponge cake remain.
  Full and creamy in the mouth; sweetish, with vanilla sponge and dry coconut in the dryish finish, and milk chocolate in the aftertaste.

Slyrs & Kilchoman -
ein junger Deutscher, ein junger Schotte

Slyrs 3y, 2008-2011, 43 %
Immer wieder wurden wir gefragt nach Slyrs, den Whisky vom Schliersee, und nun können wir ihn anbieten. Jahrgang 2008 und gerade abgefüllt, 43 %.

Die Destillerie Lantenhammer ist bekannt für Ihre guten Obstbrände. Dann hatte Florian Stetter, Destillateurmeister und gelernter Bierbrauer eine Idee: Seit 1999 destilliert er aus teilweise mit Buchenholz geräuchertem Gerstenmalz den Slyrs Jahrgangswhisky.

Drei Jahre reift der Slyrs in frischen 225 Ltr. fassenden Eichenholzfässern aus amerikanischer Weißeiche. Für 2015 ist die erste Edition 12jähriger Slyrs geplant.

  Pale straw in colour, with a fresh, fruity, spicy nose. The taste is sweet, spicy, round and full, with a hint of sweetness.

  Light gold in colour, the whisky has a smoky, malty nose with a hint of sweetness. The taste is full-bodied, slightly peaty and malty sweet, with a lingering freshness.

  The whisky is golden in colour and with a sweet caramel and vanilla nose. The taste is full, bourbon sweet with a hint of liquorice. The finish is long, smooth and sweet.

  Salty sea shore, peat and sweet fruit on the nose, combine with the pungent taste of smoke, peat and iodine, nicely finished with sweet sherry.

  A combination of salt, peat and toffee on the nose. The taste starts with sweetness followed by spice and liquorice. Lovely long mellow finish.

Die Summer Release 2010 ist die erste 100 %ige Bourbon-Abfüllung. 3 Jahre alt und aus frischen und refill Bourbon Fässern.

Colour - Pale straw
Nose - Strong peaty aromas and a complex blend of pear drops, citrus and hints of mango.
Palate - An initial sweetnessis followed by peat smoke and the mixed fruits.
Finish - long, clean and refreshing leaving hints of peat smoke and cloves.

Adelphi's Liddesdale ist angekommen

Der 'Cousin' des im letzten Monat gelieferten Fascadale Batch 2 ist da!
Liddesdale ist die dritte limitierte Single Malt Abfüllung von Adelphi mit 46 %. Fünf Refill Sherry Fässer aus europäischer Eiche geben ihm seine fast schon herbstlichen orangig-rosinigen Aromen.

Tasting Notes:
Warm beaches, gun stock oil, burnt crystalline sugar and mince pies with brandy butter; a mouth coating sweetness drying to waxy Seville orange peel in a long finish.

Liddesdale Geschichte:
Der Liddesdale ist benannt nach der schönen Landschaft auf den Ardnamurchan und Morvern Halbinseln benannt, dem zu Hause der Adelphi’s Besitzer.

Liddesdale steigt sanft von der südlichen Küste des Loch Sunart auf und ist tief in den Geschichten und dem Volkstum verankert.

Der neue Fascadale Batch 2, 10yr old Island Single Malt 46% ist da

... und kommt wieder von der gleichen Destillerie wie der Adelphi Breath of the Isles ...

Der Fascadale ist benannt nach der Fascadale Bay und dem gleichnamigen Landstrich. Fascadale liegt auf der nordwestlichen Seite der zerklüfteten Ardnamurchan-Halbinsel nördlich der Insel Mull.

Charlie MacLean suchte diesen Single Malt aus und beschreibt ihn mit den folgenden Noten "White pepper, smoked bacon and sticking plasters. Flapjacks on the beach, with a large pinch of rock salt and a good dose of chilli pepper and licorice".

Bei unserer ganz besonderen Vorliebe für diese Insel war es nur eine Frage der Zeit, wann auch die Elements Einzug halten.

Ab sofort finden Sie auf unseren Regalen die in Faßstärke abgefüllten Br1, CI1, Lg1, Lp1.
Der Abfüller Speciality Drinks ist bei den Elements inspiriert von dem medizinischen, fast elementaren "Urknall" Charakter der Islay Malts. Dieser führte auch zu den laborartigen Apothekerflaschen und der Benennung in Anlehnung an chemische Elemente.

Kilchoman Spring Release
Nur ganz wenige Flaschen!

Die Spring Release wurde 3 Jahre in einer Kombination von frischen und refill Bourbon Fässern gelagert. Danach erfuhr es ein 3 ½ monatiges Finish in aktiven Oloroso Sherry Fässern.

Die neue Abfüllung ist im Stil ähnlich der beiden bereits erschienenen, sollte jedoch unbedingt gegen die Herbst Abfüllung getastet werden, um die feinen Unterschiede wahrnehmen zu können. Bei uns im Laden können Sie neben dem Autumn Release exklusiv auch Kilchoman New Spirit (3 Tage im Faß) sowie einen ein- und zweijährigen gegen"nosen".

Drei neue unabhängige Bowmores an Bord

1. Adelphi: Bowmore 8y, 2001, refill sherry, 59,9 %, Faß 1126, 583 Flaschen (59 €)
   Tasting Notes des Importeurs:
   Wieder so einer: Jung aber guuuut!!!
   Diesmal aus einem Refill Sherry Butt, das ihm nur eine blasse Farbe spendiert hat. In der Nase merkt man erst nur ein leichtes Prickeln, aber dann schlägt der Islay-Charakter voll zu!
   Phenoliger als man von Bowmore erwartet, gehen einem zuerst Bilder von Fußbädern, Flaschen voll Desinfektionsmittel, Teerseife und zaghafte Rauchzeichen durch den Kopf, aber bald folgen Minztoffees, süßes Malz und frischer Seewind. In Fassstärke ist er nur wenig süß, im Nachgeschmack leichte Aschenoten. Mit Wasser wird’s fruchtiger - Aromen der schwarzen Johannisbeere - und Toffee und nasses Zeitungspapier kommen hinzu. Er wird durch das Wasser süßer und fruchtiger, der feine Rauch verschwindet. Adelphi's erster Bowmore!

A.D. Rattray bringt einer Rarität:
11jähriger West Port - AUSVERKAUFT
frisches Bourbon-Faß, 60,6%, 287 Flaschen

Ein West Port? Hier verbirgt sich Whisky einer Highland Brennerei, von der man praktisch keine unabhängigen Abfüllungen bekommt (außer ab und an von der Scotch Malt Whisky Society). Fässern, die von der Brennerei an die Blend-Industrie verkauft werden, gibt man einen "Teelöffel" Glen Moray bei - zumindest wird es so behauptet. Dadurch können diese unter dem Namen "West Port" gehandelten Fässer nicht als Single Malt-Whisky auf den Markt kommen. Die Brennerei ist bekannt für ihr Wood-Management und ihre excellenten Bourbon-Fässer ...

Also bieten wir Ihnen ganz genau genommen keinen Single Malt, sondern einen Scotch Malt Whisky an. Bei einem eventuell zugefügten Teelöffel auf ein ganzes Faß aber eigentlich auch ziemlich egal, denn auf die Qualität kommt es an und die ist super!

Dezember 2009

Adelphi "Laudale" - er ist war wieder da -
mit genau 18 Flaschen, 46 % - AUSVERKAUFT

Laudale - das Tal der Gebirgsbäche - liegt auf der Südseite von Loch Sunart auf der Morvern Halbinsel. Es ist ein Ort unberührter Natur und vollkommener Schönheit, an dem sich Adler in die Lüfte schwingen und Hirsche durch zerklüfteten Hügel streifen. Dieser von Charlie MacLean ausgewählte, limitierte Single Malt Whisky beeindruckt mit seinen Aromen von Kirschkuchen mit dicker Sahne, kandierten Kirschen und Sahne-Karamelbonbons, einem Hauch Arabica Espresso, edelherber Schokolade und feiner Lakritze am Abgang.
Keine 4.000 Flaschen wurden abgefüllt! Der Laudale ist übrigens ein lupenreiner Speysider aus einer weltbekannten Destille aus Ballindalloch.

Daneben ein super leckerer 27y Caol Ila, ebenfalls Adelphi, aus dem Bourbon Faß. Nur 227 Flaschen insgesamt ergab das Faß. Die offziellen Tasting Notes:

We have always been strong advocates of young Caol Ila whiskies – vibrant, fresh, plenty of iodine and surprisingly sweet. This one, however, has spent 27 years in an American oak hogshead and has taken on a wholly different complexity.
Some mild smoke on the nose, sweet and salty with smoky bacon and cheese wafting through. There is a definite maritime influence here with dried seaweed and Lapsang Souchong (with a little sugar). As it opens, there is a hint of menthol giving way to perfumed roses and carnations (the pink ones), backed by vivid, acrid Bakerlite.
Very sweet to taste with nutmeg, some salt and bags of smoke in a rich, oily texture; now marmalade appears with pork crackling and blackcurrants, all rounded off with more salt and smoke. Old Caol Ila at its best.
